Social event segmentation.

چکیده
Humans are experts in understanding social environments. What perceptual and cognitive processes enable such competent evaluation of social information? Here we show that environmental content is grouped into units of "social perception", which are formed automatically based on the attentional priority given to social information conveyed by eyes and faces. When asked to segment a clip showing a typical daily scenario, participants were remarkably consistent in identifying the boundaries of social events. Moreover, at those social event boundaries, participants' eye movements were reliably directed to actors' eyes and faces. Participants' indices of attention measured during the initial passive viewing, reflecting natural social behaviour, also showed a remarkable correspondence with overt social segmentation behaviour, reflecting the underlying perceptual organization. Together, these data show that dynamic information is automatically organized into meaningful social events on an ongoing basis, strongly suggesting that the natural comprehension of social content in daily life might fundamentally depend on this underlying grouping process.

UPC at MediaEval 2013 Social Event Detection Task
These working notes present the contribution of the UPC team to the Social Event Detection (SED) task in MediaEval 2013. The proposal extends the previous PhotoTOC work in the domain of shared collections of photographs stored in cloud services. An initial over-segmentation of the photo collection is later refined by merging pairs of similar clusters.
متن کاملThe Watershed-based Social Events Detection Method with Support from External Data Sources
In this paper, a watershed-based method with support from external data sources is proposed to detect Social Events defined by MediaEval 2012. This method is based on two main observations: (1) people cannot be involved in more than one event at the same time, and (2) people tend to introduce similar annotations for all images associated to the same event. Based on these observations, the whole...

This paper outlines the approach taken by the Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies laboratory, and the Applied Data Mining Research Group (SAIVT-ADMRG) in the 2014 MediaEval Social Event Detection (SED) task. We participated in the event based clustering subtask (subtask 1), and focused on investigating the incorporation of image features as another source of data to aid clustering. In p...
متن کاملEvent Detection and Visualization for Social Text Streams
In this paper, we propose to detect events from social text streams by exploring the content as well as the temporal, and social dimensions. We define the term event in the social text streams(e.g., blogs, emails, and Usenets) as a set of relations between social actors on a specific topic over a certain time period. We represent social text streams as multi-graphs, where each node represents a...
